Psalm 24:7-10: Lift up your
heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, ou everlasting doors! And the
King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord
strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O you
gates! Lift up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall
come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the
King of glory.
The Ascension of the True Redeemer,
Who Opens Heaven’s Gates for the Entrance of the True Worshippers
A. The Entry of the King of Glory will be into a
Palace of Enduring Splendor (v. 7, 9)
1. The description is of the welcome of
the conquering monarch as He enters. Our Lord Jesus Christ could
ascend into the hill of the Lord because his hands were clean and his heart was
pure, and if we by faith in him are conformed to his image we shall enter
too. We have here a picture of our Lord’s glorious ascent. We can
see him going up from the group on the Mount of Olivet, as the cloud receives
him, with angels escorting him to the gates of heaven.
2. The doors are everlasting because they
shall endure for ever, and because they will be the doors to life everlasting
(Revelation 21:25). Doors in Middle Eastern times would often be taken
off their hinges, and this would show welcome to a guest. Here it shows
the welcome into heaven and how wide is heaven’s gate at the ascension of our
Lord.
B. The Entry of the King will be that of a
Mighty Conqueror (v. 8-10)
1. The King is welcomed into heaven as the
warrior, as one who was dead, but is alive again.
2. The King is one who has conquered
sorrow and sin, and the grave, and is entering into the coveted joy He has so
bravely won.
3. The question “Who is this King of
glory?” is answered by innumerable voices, who shout that it is the Lord of
hosts, He is the King of glory!”
Have you truly made Jesus your King,
and is your worship acceptable to Him!
