"The Lord Brings Victory"
Psalm 27:13-14: I would have
despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in
the land of the living. Wait for the Lord, be strong, and let your heart
take courage; yes, wait for the Lord.
The
opposite of courage is fainting, and the thing that keeps us from fainting is
faith in God. For a Christian, believing is seeing (2 Kings 6:15-17), not
seeing is believing (v. 13). Waiting is preparation for the next battle,
the next blessing. As we wait, we pray; we meditate on the Word; we worship
God. The wise sailor repairs his sails in calm weather, and the wise soldier
regathers his strength during the lull in battle (v. 14; Isaiah 40:31).
The ability to calm your soul and
wait before God is one of the most difficult things in the Christian
life. Our old nature is restless. The world around us is
frantically in a hurry.
God can help us conquer fear if we
will learn to worship, walk, and wait; and the most difficult of these
is—wait. A restless heart usually leads to a reckless life. In Psalm 62,
we read: My soul, wait thou only upon God, for my expectation is from
Him. He only is my rock and my salvation. He is my defense, I shall
not be moved.
