Psalm 1:3-6: He shall be like
a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its
season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall
prosper. The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind
drives away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor
sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the Lord knows the way
of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
A. Giving Produces Prosperity (Psalm 1:3;
Luke 6:38)
We are to soak up God’s Word, producing actions and
attitudes that honor God.
B. Obedience to God’s Word Brings
Prosperity (Joshua 1:8)
C. Honesty with God about our sins
brings Prosperity
(Psalm 1:4-5; Proverbs 28:13)—Although evil people may get
the upper hand at times, God assures us that a day is coming when their sins
will be punished. Chaff is the outer shell that must be removed to get at
the valuable kernels of grain inside. Chaff was removed by a process
called threshing and winnowing. Chaff is a symbol of a faithless life
that drifts along without direction. Good grain is a symbol of a faithful
life that can be used by God.
D. Material Prosperity vs. Spiritual
Prosperity (Psalm 1:6; Luke 12:16-34) We are not left in suspense as to
whether it is worth it to follow God’s Law. The choice is clear—life or
death!
